Ream, Cambodia – April 19, 2025 — Two vessels from the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), Bungo and Etazima, arrived at Cambodia’s Ream Sea Base on Friday for a four-day official visit, marking a significant step in regional defense cooperation and maritime diplomacy.

The Japanese Embassy in Cambodia confirmed that a welcoming ceremony was held in honor of the visiting ships. The event was attended by the Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, Mr. Ueno Atsushi, along with Rear Admiral Mean Savoeun, Deputy Commander of the Ream Sea Base, and several senior Cambodian naval officers.

According to the Embassy, the arrival of the Bungo and Etazima reflects Japan’s commitment to promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific, as well as the peace and stability in the region and in the international community.

The JMSDF ships will remain docked at the Ream Sea Base from April 19 to 22, engaging in a series of diplomatic and naval exchange activities during their stay.

The port was officially launched on April 5, 2025, under the high chairmanship of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.

The visit highlights the growing defense ties between Japan and Cambodia and reaffirms both nations’ shared interest in ensuring maritime security and cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region.
